What does “settling in” mean?

Settling in refers to the transition period when a child is getting used to a new setting, routine, people and surroundings. It’s a time of adjustment, trust-building and emotional reassurance.

Some children jump right in. Others need more time. Both are absolutely normal.

Our approach to settling in

At Tik Tak, settling in is not a one-size-fits-all process. We work with you to shape a plan that fits your child’s unique personality, background and emotional needs. Key elements include:

• Gradual visits – We start with short sessions and build up over several days.

• Parent involvement – You’re welcome to stay at first, offering comfort while your child explores.

We also use home languages, family photos and familiar routines to help children feel that nursery is an extension of their safe space — not a break from it.

What to expect as a parent

• Seeking comfort from their key person
